Admitted to the hospital about 10:00am. Owen was born that evening at 8:44pm.
FLASHBACK...
June 1st, 2008
We went in at 4:00am as I was having pretty bad contractions. Abby was born that afternoon at 1:24pm.
December 28th, 2010
My water was leaking so we went to the hospital a little after noon. Emma was born December 29th, 2010 at 12:59am.
I was saying my due date was May 10th but I realized in late April that my doctor was using the initial ultrasound date of May 2nd as my due date. So we decided to induce on the 15th if Owen hadn't made his appearance yet. I went in for a non-stress test on Monday, May 13th and my doctor decided we should probably get him out that day.
I went right from the doctor's office to the hospital so we didn't get to take our traditional picture in front of the calendar in the kitchen so we improvised with my pocket calendar from my purse. :) I wished I would have thought to get something to eat before I checked in to the hospital because I hadn't really eaten anything but a granola bar and they don't let you eat once you are admitted. So I had a ton of popsicles, chicken broth and this yummy slushy cherry snack. I think I ate like 4 of the cherry slushy things!
Dan was subbing for a guy who's wife had just had a baby May 12th so it was funny that we had to get a sub for his sub. He got there a little bit after I was admitted. We started Pitocin about noon and I was 2-3 centimeters dilated. Dan and I watched TV and chatted enjoying a little time together. My brother and mom came by with the girls and we hung out for a bit. We had a few mishaps as Emma threw up all over the floor (it seemed to be an isolated incident as she never threw up again) and I spilled my urine collection everywhere in the bathroom. Apologies to housekeeping and my nurse!
By about 6:00pm I was 5 centimeters dilated and I got my epidural and they broke my water. A while later Dan left to go change clothes and get the things I had packed from the house and when he got back at about 8:00pm I was 7 centimeters and then at 8:30pm I was 10 centimeters and ready to push! One push and "Little O" made his entrance into the world at 8:44pm! It is so amazing when you look at that new little person for the first time. Immediately you are in love!
The girls came by about 9:30pm with my mom and brother. It was fun to watch them see their brother for the first time. Thank you mom and Dave for taking good care of the girls while Dan and I got to know Owen!
Charity was my friend from church in high school! I credit her with helping me be able to nurse Owen.
